Dervish (complete warrior) with a scythe. Suggestions?

I note that your character is an Elf, and you are wanting a two-handed weapon that is also finessable. Might I suggest you take a look at the Elven Courtblade from Races of the wild? Exotic weapon, 1d10 damage, with an 18-20 crit range. I believe it does slashing damage. And it has a certain interaction with Elves regarding proficiency.

Forget that wussy dex based finesse stuff.

2-Hander str builds are the way to go with dervishes.

Barbarian nets 10 extra speed, the rage can be used to offset fatigue after a dance or when you don't have room to dance to start with.

Dervishes ain't tanks though (for a group with squishies). Ideally you end your dance each round out of reach + a 5-foot step of your melee enemies. Think Spring Attack.

I don't think anyone has mentioned yet that boots of striding and springing do not stack with the dervish speed bonuses because both are enhancement.

Personally, I think it would be a shame to give up on the image of a guy running around with a scythe, slaughtering all those in his path.

If you don't want to go with your original Barbarian option (which isn't bad - there are times when you won't be able to maneuver and whirling frenzy is a nice backup option), I'd go either Scout 2/Fighter 4/Dervish 3 or Rogue 2/Fighter 4/Dervish 3 (if the latter, I'd pick up an extra level of rogue at some point - with Dervish Dance, you'll be flanking a lot) or Ranger 1/Fighter 4/Dervish 4 or Duskblade 1/Fighter 4/Dervish 4.

Late update. I did not use this character for the intended campaign, but I'm going to take the concept over to a brief evil campaign another GM is running, which is also 9th level. However, in light of recent books, I'm curious if perhaps a Scout-based dervish with Improved Skirmish (perhaps Scout 5/Fighter 2/Dervish 2) would be better.

Scout + Dervish = Broken heap of pieces.

Build a TWF fighter with Imp Skirmish and you'll enjoy 4 attacks per round at level 9 with +4d6 damage to each hit.

Get Melee weapon mastery + Imp Weapon Focus to boost your to hit.

Wasn't there a better way to get WS instead of fighter 4? Check out the feats in complete scoundrel for multiclassing Scouts.

Edit: No Ftr/Scout multiclass feat, but Deadly Defense rocks for increasing the scims damage by +1d6.

Go Scout3/Rgr with Swift Hunter, you'll have TWF. Add Imp Skirmish. Forget fighter and head for Dervish.
