Dervish Dance let's you move your full speed while making a Full Attack Action.

Together, this lets you make a single attack at your highest bonus against everyone you can reach during your movement.

Egad, that is a brutal combination. Thanks for pointing that out. Has anyone used this before? Is it as overpowered as it seems? I've had a colossal BBEG with whirlwind attack, which was nearly the same, so I'm not sure.

I might stat up a bad guy with this combo.

That's still a very small downside. Just give the character haste (via potion or boots) or some other method for a higher speed. Every 5ft of speed means one more attack. Give him a reach weapon and he might never even provoke an AoO in a sufficiently open area.

Two things that would bother me with that build.
1. How can you multiclass barbar and monk? lawful then chaotic? (less cheeze pleeze)
2. Please tell me you haven't houseruled out the xp penalty starting at level 5.



I had a whirling dervish, and it was pretty much a ruiner. Too good compared to the rest of the party. I don't know if I'd call it broken, due to the necessity to break up the attacks between opponents and other restrictions, but definitely impressive.

Dervish issues

Hello all!

First off, the biggest problem with the build above is that you can't dance while under the effects of a rage or frenzy (I just read that, sorry).

Now I'm currently playing a dervish and some of this debate has confused me. The way we have played it, it seems that a dervish can start a dance, run in and start slashing away then (so long as he still has movement of course) move away.

Is this format correct?

As for whether or not they are overpowered, I can't really think so simply because every spellcasting class has received MASSIVE power jumps in relation to the spells that are being released by WoTC. A slew of ranged touch spells that allow you to hit a creature's ALWAYS pathetic touch AC and do massive damage they can neither avoid nor do anything about, so what if I can make a full attack after a movement... whooopity dooo!

Persoanlly I liked the 2nd edition rule of "move half your movement and get all of your attacks or move all your movement and get one attack".

Heck, we had an epic game where I was a non-spellcaster and the DM said "Thats dumb, why did you do that?". Worst part is that he was right, I was the weakest in the party because I couldn't defeat the myriad of defensive spells and I couldn't avoid the myriad of new offensive spells.

My DM (different than above) put it very well when he said "The Dervish is the melee version of an archer". By this he meant of course that the archer can almost always take a full attack, where as a melee guy has to run up to the BBEG and then face the wrath of his full attack.

BTW - the Acrobatic strike feat from PHB II is awesome for a Dervish! Grants a +4 to your next strike when you avoid provoking an attack of opportunity by tumbling, which is all a Dervish does.

You can't move, attack everyone in reach, move, attack everyone...

But you can move five feet, attack one person in reach, move five feet, attack another, etc. If you navigate carefully, you should still get most of them.

I have a Living Greyhawk character who uses it.

He's a 1/2 Orc Brb1/Ftr4/Drv4 right now. I went the greatsword route instead of the paired scimitars route with him, mainly for power attack and for the Whirlwind Attack feat.

Feats: Dodge, Mobility, WF: Greatsword, Combat Expertise, Power Attack, Elusive Target, Spring Attack, Whirlwind Attack.

Elusive Target is another very effective feat for a Dervish Build - Combat Expertise for 4, dance past them without tumbling, and if they take the AoO they will likely miss to due to your ac bonus from Dodge, Mobility and Expertise. Take your free trip attempt (from the Cause Overreach aspect of Elusive Target) and if it succeeds the prone penalty to their AC cancels out your penalty from combat expertise when you take your attack on them. If it doesn't work, they can't try to trip you back, so you just have the normal combat expertise attack/AC tradeoff.

It's a really fun build, because you have so many options in combat, and do decent damage.
