D&D 4E Desert of Desolation Minis... 4E preview thoughts

Now that I've seen the miniatures, I'm kind of upset about them using the name. I'm not saying anything about the quality of the miniatures, but how many of these creatures were in the Desert of Desolation module (or the I3-I5 series that it came from)? The name just conjures up strong memories that the figures seem a bit unrelated to.

bit off topic. How do the Dreamblade minis compare in size to D&D minis? Can they be used together?

They have a square base, even the small or medium sized minis, which doesn't mesh well. The large ones are about the same size as D&D. Buying Dreamblade minis to substitute for D&D rpg can be hit or miss. Some are quite great though. They have a giant that makes a fantastic formorian giant.

Okay, I need that, as I have a heavy fey-themed (Seelie/Unseelie Court) Planescape campaign, and the Formorians feature prominently (especially in Tir Na Og).

…But their randomized, aren't they?

Stupidly, the drow, and I think the drider, were in the adventures. This really is the weakest part of the series.

The living statue might fit... as a statue.

The merchant guard is OK, as is the warhorse.

There is a sphinx.

There is a halfling rogue.

The Mercenary General would fit.

There might be a manticore.

There are giant spiders.

There are Guardian Mummies.

There are ghouls.

There are cultists.

There are Umber Hulks.

There are no sahaugin.

There was only one drow though, wasn't there? I only recall Pawnis, the drow the PCs meet in the third module. He sticks in my mind because he made an awesome adversary for my brother's elf.

One of the more memorable characters from the modules... though probably due to my characterization of him and not for any other By The Book reason.

One of my favorite sets so far.

The Umber Hulk, Feral Troll, and Ogre Brute are awesome. I love the Snaketongue Cultist and the Farmer too. All of these will get a lot of use in my games.

threadjack reply: You should be able to find DB minis really cheap right now. The line was cancelled. I just picked up a bunch of U/C for $1 each, which may sound like a lot, but they are perfect for the parts of my campaign that are based on the Far Realms (and the ogre is awesome). Even the rares are cheaper right now, and likely to go down even more in price as time goes on.

OT:
Nice set, not my favorite set (I own a couple thousand of these guys), but a nice set. It was less themed than I wanted (missed the desert garbed humanoids) and we didn't need another copper dragon this soon, but there are some nice things here.
