D&D 4E Desert of Desolation Minis... 4E preview thoughts

Stupidly, the drow, and I think the drider, were in the adventures. This really is the weakest part of the series.

The living statue might fit... as a statue.

The merchant guard is OK, as is the warhorse.

There is a sphinx.

There is a halfling rogue.

The Mercenary General would fit.

There might be a manticore.

There are giant spiders.

There are Guardian Mummies.

There are ghouls.

There are cultists.

There are Umber Hulks.

There are no sahaugin.

But no gnome with a spoon! Give me that and the title is justified.

Slightly off topic: Does them using the name there make it less or more likely that they will actually do a 4th edition rerelease of the module?

I think it's lekely, and I hope they do

There was mention along the lines of 'all the classic dungoens will exist in 4E...more about that later.'

Man, I would love a 4E version of:
Caves of Chaos (Keep on the Borderlands)
ToEE
Tomb of Horrors
Red Hand of Doom (not really a dungeon, but the pinnacle of 3.5 IMO)
and Desert of Desolation, of course!

My favorites and why:
Gelatinous Cube: Sure it's just a cube of clear plastic with some "oozy" type sculpting. But the base comes off and you can stick other minis in it for that "stuck in the goo" look.

Tiefling Cleric and Rogue: The figures look really good and don't have Massive Horn Head Syndrome. They've got nice poses, good coloring. Totally changed my opinion of Tieflings; now I want to play one! Still don't care for the name Tiefling, but I can deal with that.

Human Cleric of Bahamut: I like the color choices, sculpting looks good, but the pose just is awesome. I can FEEL him about to lay the smack down.

Umber Hulk Delver: Really nice pose. Got some real bulk behind it. When placed next to my reaper cleric, I can see where it would tear him a new...

Me No Likey and Why:
Harpy: It's a dude. Ain't no mistaking it. Clumpy sculp. Yuck.

Sahuagin: Head is WAY too big for body with a goofy grin on it. Which is too bad, I can see where they were going and it had promise. Coloring is good, too. But it looks like a pissy Oscar the Grouch.

Flame Snake: Nasty paint job. Also, it's coiled and inside its coils is a clump of black plastic the as sheered off at the top making the figure look like it was never finished. The inside of the coils should have been sculpted too. It looks very unfinished.

Ettercap Webspinner: I don't like it, but not for the reason most are giving: A reimagining of the Ettercap, but because it has the face of the dad from the old Dinosaurs tv show. I keep waiting for it to get wacked in the head with a cry of "Not the Baby." It's a just some kind of psychological hangup for me, but I can't steam past it.

The Rest:
Almost all of the others, I like. Some more than others, but I'm happy with the set as a whole.

This strongly supports a well done sort by case however. Not even dupes on rares. Thankyou for posting the results.

But the small and medium aren't?
Base size. All have 1.5" x 1.5" bases. on an ogre who will be taking up 2" x 2", that does not matter. For a medium critter, a larger base changes some things around.

Not having utilized the Miniatures rules, has anyone else noticed that the Mercenary General's stat card says "Commander 4." Is that a clue that perhaps the Warlord = Commander?
