I know it's really early to do this, and we don't have all the info we need, but I thought I'd give it a shot anyhow. I'm planning a 4e adventure with kobolds (shock, shock). However, they're going to be more like sadistic xenomorphs from Aliens, that use traps.
The Situation
The kobolds have overtaken a mine. In one of the tunnels (which slants upwards), there's a trap that includes a living captive. The diagram looks like this:
> & ##.
The > is a bottleneck; rubble and corpses have been piled in here so that someone has to crawl through a smaller hole to get to the captive. However, it's a one-way hole; there are serrated rock, bone and metal that point in one direction, so if you crawl over them one way it's okay, but going against the grain, you're going to get carved up.
The & is the captive. The person is anchored to the mining cart track by several twisted metal bonds.
The # are mining carts. These are stuffed to the hilt with rock. Since the tunnel is slanted, they would naturally roll downwards, but a wedge is keeping a wheel in place.
The Trap
When someone tries to release the captive, one of the bonds is attached to a wire that, when removed, yanks the wedge out from under the cart's wheel. The carts, being very heavy and at an incline, begin to move forwards, pushing the PC(s) and the captive towards the slanted spikes (and possibly running over the captive).
As this happens, two kobold slingers are going to start peppering the party from the other side of the tunnel.
So Rechan, what do you need?
Mechanics. I don't know how to reflect this properly. How do the PCs disarm it? How challenging is it? Is it lethal enough, or does it just look kinda scary?
