details of Riposte Strike

First Post
Hi there,
I'm new on the 4th Edition and going through the Player's Handbook to create a rogue. I'm not sure if I understand the exploit Riposte Strike correctly. If I use that power succesfully on a target, I can interrupt the target's attack against me until the start of my next turn, OK. Does this mean the target loses its attack against me no matter my riposte hits or not? Or is it able to perform its attack if I don't hit it, and if so, do I still have my AC against that attack?
It's an At Will power, so could it be that in a duel with a single opponent who has one attack per round he wouldn't be able to attack me at all as long if I hit him in every turn?:hmm:

"Interrupt" just means your riposte happens before the enemy attack. It doesn't prevent or stop the enemy attack unless you happen to kill the target.

the riposte is a really good power for a brawny rogue that has strength and dexterity at an equal level and uses two weapons. A dagger for the first hit, a short sword for the riposte.

Thanks for the quick answer ;) Guess I rather keep moving in combat as a rogue.
The other option is to flank with a Fighter, and attack someone he's Marked. That way, if the target does attack you, the Fighter gets a free whack at him. If he doesn't attack you, then you just get to keep stabbing him in the back. It's win-win!

Cheers, -- N

If you trigger an AO right after using Riposte Strike, the chance that you will actually get to use it increases a lot, which makes it kind if attractive for an Artful Dodger collaborating with a Fighter.

And if you can somehow get a shift, push, or slide into your attack, this would be a real gem.

Artful Dodgers often don't have the Str to make the secondary attack reliable.

To clarify a point up the page if your attack pushes or slides the target away from you so that he's out of range then he doesn't get to hit you

You can't use immediate actions on your own turn, so unfortunately, unless you have a strategy to trigger an OA during someone else's turn, this tactic doesn't work too well at all.
