DI ...what i want to see

Well the new DI from WotC is coming. WotC has promised lots of stuff for us. I suspect that there will be more than just dungeon and dragon. I think we'll see an online character generator (WotC cancelled their license with code monkey a while back....). I would also like to see a character designer, one of the neat aspects of MMORGs is creating your character. Going on and designing what PCs/NPCs look like is pretty cool.

What would you want to see?

I would LOVE a character generator that fully supported all the many, many feats, PrCs, and other options that are available. I always end up picking something unsupported by whatever tool we're using. I'd want to be able to update a character, not just create it once.

I'm not sure what else I'd really be looking for, though. More Eberron stuff, but what kind of "stuff," I don't know.

I'd like to see adventures from old issues of Dragon and Dungeon converted over to the current edition of D&D, or, in the case of those old Top Secret (and maybe even one for Traveller that i remember) adventures, to d20 Modern/Future.

I'd like to see plenty of NPC stat blocks, from the lowliest gate guard to the toughest Archmage.

A character generator that contained all the new feats and stuff (it doesn't have to say what the feats do, just correctly handle the pre-reqs) and then print out a character sheet would be worth the price of admission.

I wouldn't mind if it was downloadable and fully functional. However, the survey implied you'd only be able to save around three characters. That's pretty crippled and useless as far as I'm concerned. I have more PCs to keep track of than that, and the NPCs I need to track inl my campaign is far greater.

Whatever the content on the DI is, I want downloadability, portability, archivability. If I can't take the articles I want, transport them around on some other media so I can read them on any computer (even one not online), access them as many times as I want, and store them in a way that's convenient to me, then I won't be on board.

Me too. I don't how they would pull this off, but it would be cool if they did.

I'm going to become a pain no doubt posting this in every forum that talks about the DI, but seeing that WotC lurk around here more means I will spam to be sure I'm heard. :heh:

1) The great maps in their products. Enlarge them to 1-inch squares. Remove the callouts. Make them 8x11 PDF's to download to use with minis.

2) A searchable D&D index of STUFF. Everything. Where the magic items is, the eberron shard, the forgotten realms cult. What book, what page, cross-referenced.

3) A good, solid NPC generator. Minotaur monk 4/barbarian 3 with a double-axe. Click. Done.

I want the ability to add third party material into any character generators or campaign rule sets. I see this as working in two possible ways: 1) User entered content and 2) WotC entered, but charged for content.

I'm not super pumped about either 1 or 2, but either way would at least present a solution when my wife asks me, "How do I put my Fighter 10/Knight of the Pale 10 with the feat Devout Faith (all from Ptolus) into the character generator?".

If I have to print out the character and add things by hand, it isn't the character generator I want.

Thaumaturge.
