Did I just get a great deal on Basic Set?

First Post
So I was browsing around Amazon, looking for used copies of OD&D box sets, and found, for $15, what I think is Basic Set and Expert Set... plus a second Basic Set?
Not sure. Here's the description:
"3 Box sets Dungeons & Dragons, basic Set Box in great condition ,all books included, Basic Set 1 Box is good shape all books are included, Expert Set 2 to be used with D&D basic set Box has some marking on bottom all books are included, 1marker included and 1 unopened bag of 5 multi color game pieces"

Poorly written? Yes. Good deal? Probably.

What do you think this description really means? Wife and I can't figure it out. Anyway, I ordered it.

A few moments with google shopping and ebay's completed listing search can help ball park what the items are worth.

It sounds like a good deal overall. If you have time to comb garage sale, you'd eventually find better deals.

Yeah, not having to spend time is key to me. I don't have much free time.

But if I'm reading that right, and it really is 2x of the Basic set, and 1x of the Expert set, that seems decent enough.

We'll know for sure in a few days when it arrives, I guess.

There are lots of Basic sets - Holmes, Moldvay, Mentzer (red box), then onto the late black box set.

I normally see the Basic and Expert sets going for between $5 and $20 on ebay.

I'm betting the unopened "game pieces" are the dice - it makes sense with the description of the marker - but it could be something from a later set.

See here for information on printings: Basic Set

Cheers!

I believe this one is a Holmes set... unless since it's supposedly "3 sets" it's one of each heh.

Anyway, I'll know on Wednesday what they're actually shipping. I've seen some great deals on eBay since ordering this... so yeah, not as good of a deal as I thought heh.

Well, it arrived today. Despite the odd and confusing description from the seller, it is only the Basic Set.

I've determined it to be Fourth+ printing (1979), according to Acaeum, so it came with B1 and the B1 maps folder.

The books are in EXCELLENT condition, though the box is in, understandably, poor shape.
No dice included, unfortunately.

I'm pleased. Now, to put together a game...

The module itself is black and white / monochrome, while the cardstock folder-thing with the maps is tri-tone... black white and greenish ;)

That make it special...er?
