D&D 4E Did WOTC lie to 4e players about 5e?

If I spent 1000 dollars in one year on a product that I was told was going to be sticking around for a number of years and it was suddenly dropped I wouldn't be so happy either.
To use the prevailing meme: why not? Are his 4e books suddently going to spontaneously combust and therefore be unusable now that 5e is announced? Are the "gaming police" going to come take them away from him? If he thinks 4e is such a good game, then by all means, why doesn't he just keep playing it? At any rate, 5e won't be released for--at best--another year or so anyway.

If this guy's even serious at all--a premise about which I'm kinda dubious--then he's a major Chicken Little and seriously needs to be ignored.
