started with 3.0 and never left.
Played only 4 campaigns of 4E, then returned to 3.5 and PF1 until 5E. Just glanced at PF2, didn't liked it.

From the last two years of college until about halfway through grad school I stopped gaming. It took a combination of that very first LOTR trailer and stumbling across an issue of Dragon in a grocery store magazine rack to loop me back in. Before I knew it I had bought the three core books (back when they were still selling at the discounted $20 price tag) and from there I was hooked again. I eventually soured on 3e, but in the beginning it absolutely felt transformative and I owe it for pulling me back into gaming.

I would do that if it was an option aka finding the players or location.

I wouldn't abandon 5E maybe alternate. the campaigns. And I would pick playing 5E over DMing second.

Would love to play a 2E game nearest DM I know of is 1400+ kilometers away.
I had a group decide to play 2E during the 5E era. I dropped from the game. It is such a painful system. I could see going back to 3E or 3.5 .... or AD&D for true novelty ... but never 2E again.

... there are slurs for specific D&D editions?!?

Kinda but anything negative said about 4E was a slur. Weren't allowed to say anything bad (apparently).

Kind of was a mod enforced bubble. 5E playtest was spoiled 2011 but wasn't believed by the devout since 4E was doing so well.

Yeah I didnt like 2e so spent the years before playing basic or GURPs mainly and dabbled with Palladium and RM as a player. i was dabbling with my own 2d10 % system then discovered d20 and so returned for 3.5e

Yes. But I won't say more here, trying to avoid injecting any further edition warring into the thread.

Your criticism would be more effective if I were not aware of your posting history (here and elsewhere) regarding 4e. As it stands, it seems to me you're just continuing the edition war (not that that surprises me, given your lopsided criticism of it in rhe past.)

I think you, like me, could do with a reminder that we were asked not to engage in edition warring here.

I'll just note that I wasn't a particular fan of 4e, but there were absolutely sets of repeated denigrations directed at it. A few were extensions of some things aimed at 3e, but some were brand new. So I think this is overly blithe.

I know what that post was referencing it's a comment Mike Mearls made.
