Did your parents get you into gaming?

Yep, same there, my step-dad though it was Satanic and my mother didn't care. My 18 year old son however, IS a second genereation gamer.

No but they did encourage my comicbook hobby including the drawing and writing of them. This in turn lead to being more open and having more enjoyment with gaming....

No I was a young mother when I first started playing. My now adult son got into gaming because of me. His first game was Toon followed by the TNMT game that I got him for 8 birthday.

Heh. My parents were one of those 80's parents that could've written that "tract" comic that people occasionally post links to. I think they've grown a lot and are generally more accepting, now. Although, when they come to visit I'll still likely close the door on the shelves where my books are kept. That way if they find them and want to talk about it, I can turn my 30 year old butt around and ask why they were snooping!

In general, I honestly don't think my mom or dad would have a problem with it. They've read some of my fiction (like the stuff I post here - see sig if interested). They've actually said my writing makes good fiction. So they are open to D&D as fiction. As roleplaying ... that's where they get wary.

But then again, even I've been a bit put-off by some lengths that people take roleplaying. When you can't get back out of your character and into real life, there's a problem. And I think that's what my parents truly fear about roleplaying.

Nope, I'm a 1st Generation gamer. Though it was my mother's uncle that probably sparked the interest. He was some sort of youth adviser and would take teens (16-17) on cross country trips in the summer, during these long van rides the kids were playing D&D and he thought it might be something I'd like. He bought me the original red box for Christmas and the rest is history.

My wife is a retired gamer so hopefully my two kids (ages 2 & 4) will eventually become 2nd Gen gamers. They already have considerable understanding of Dragons, Faeries, Knights and Pirates (hmm...there's a campaign idea). Oh and today my daughter (the 2 year old) insisted that she be allowed to sit on my lap and "read" the latest Dragon with me, helpfully identifying the various colored dragons in the issue.

No, although I credit my father's collection of science fiction with sparking my interest in speculative fiction, which is what led me to gaming.

No, not at all. I, however, got my dad into comic collecting, which led to him becoming a Heroclix player. He's probably better known around the FLGS than I am.

Agreed. My mom asked me early on about what we do when we game, having spoken with my friend's mother, who had heard/read things (back in the 80's, you know what things I speak of). But I was mature and she trusted my judgement. And now I sacrifce a live animal every week to my dark lord. It's all good!

Yes, kinda.

Not pen-and-paper games, but my dad got me started on computer games--not video games; X-wing, Tie Fighter, and so on, not Mario--when I was but a wee lad in the 90s. He also read The Hobbit and LOTR to me, which contributed to my eventual move to pen-and-paper stuff.

That said, I think my dad would have gotten into the pen-and-paper games if they'd come into vogue about ten years earlier; 1E only came out when he was 21, if I'm counting correctly.
