Differences between Mongoose RQ I and II

I haven't played MRQ2 yet, to see whether the problems/complaints raised are significant or not.

Originally I found a group that wanted to try out MRQ2 for a short homebrew campaign, but the group recently imploded before we ever got around to playing the first session. Three players pulled out, and we probably won't be able to find any replacement players locally. We only got around to making characters.

Understood, issues like that are why I turned to gaming on line using SKYPE and Maptools, now I have more games to play in with groups I like than I can make the time to play in them.

I still have yet to play any Runequest, let alone RQ2, but I have gotten to play tons of other RPG's, such as Traveller, CORTEX, Shadowrun 4E, Mutants and MAsterminds, Aces and Eights, Hackmaster Basic, Gamma World, TONS of Castles and Crusades, and I have scheduled Dragon Age, Wild Talents 2E, Jovian Chronicles, and others coming up over the next few months.

Not to mention the playtests I have participated in.

So I still have hope that one day I will find a group willing to do Runequest, and Judge Dredd, and EPIC Rpg, and Qin, and Starblazers, etc... but I just have to remain patient.

The most I ever played Runequest was back in the 1980's. I played it a number of times, but it wasn't my first choice of a game.

In recent times, I played a number of evening pickup games of Mongoose Runequest with several friends. I didn't bother picking up any of the MRQ1 books, after reading a number of poor online reviews and criticisms. We ended up using the MRQ1 SRD documents instead.

Yeah, I remember those reviews too, and how horrible and unplayable the game was. Fortunately I had already bought the books, so read them myself, and realized it was just the typical over blown drama of the internet.

I've never read the core MRQ1 books.

The MRQ1 SRD seems to be fine in the pickup games we played. No major problems that we came across.

The cool thing is if you read the errata thread you will see that most, if not all, of everything legitimate brought up is in the errata document posted up earlier in this thread, by me and one other even earlier, so even though they made mistakes, they are pretty on the ball about addressing them and getting corrections out in PDF.
That's good to know. :)

Nice thread. I think I'll have to get a copy of MRQ2 to satisfy my curiosity, considering I'm still a big fan of the original RQ. It was once my favorite rpg system.
