Dimension Hop question

Two quick yes/no questions...

The Duskblade spell dimension hop (PHB2) teleports the target 5' per 2 levels. Is this a fixed amount or a maximum amount?
The target affected is the creature touched. Can this also be yourself?

Generally ranges like this are "up to" the range ..
and generally, yes, you can "touch" yourself ...

Yeah, that's the thing. It doesn't say up to. It seems odd that it doesn't and if my DM rules that it's a fixed amount then I'm not really sure if I should take it as my next spell. Instead of a strategic positioning it becomes a simple "Get away from me."

Oh - that brings me to a third question. Does appearing in a square provoke Attacks of Opportunity, by the way? It's not in the D. Door description.

Unless otherwise stated, range can be modified by the caster as long as it doesn't exceed the maximum range.

If everything else fails, remember that you can decrease your caster level when casting spells.

No, it doesn't, it's in the AoO definition. Leaving a square by moving ... provokes. Not entering.

It doesn't specify by which means you enter....

Yes; most teleportation spells are V only. They're quite useful that way.
