Diplomacy and Bartering?

So as a point line. Pointing out that HE JUST ROLLS feels like discriminating. Pheeewww... Now that is said. Now I can continue and let the pressure increase next ten years listening about how some ppl are bad roleplayer - they just rollplay.

Some people do just roll-play. I find no more excitement in that than playing yahtzee.

My ideal of roleplaying:

1. You tell me what you want your character to do. Describe it, or if your character is conversing with an NPC, roleplay it out.

2. When it comes time for "conflict resolution" (i.e. finding out if you succeed or not), roll the dice. Depending on how entertaining your roleplaying was for the group, you may get a tiny bonus.

3. Accept what the dice dictate and move on.

Just rolling, or trying to fast-talk without rolling is my definition of bad roleplaying. The former is simply rolling dice, and the latter is "bad amateur theatre." You need both for good roleplaying.

So IMO, people who just roll the dice are bad roleplayers.

not to be a language brat but...

the word you are discussing is not BARTER but HAGGLE.

Barter means to exchange goods without money. It is the orgin of nearly every economy and no civilized economy can maintain it. Eventually a token economy (one where money is used in place of goods as part of the process) takes over.

Haggle means to attempt to adjust the price (in token or barter) of a good by arguing that the value of your trade is superior to the good you hope to gain.

But not the members of the latter group?

The members of the latter group are also bad roleplayers. I only mentioned the one because that was the example used. I should have mentioned both, my bad. :)
