Insight allows you to draw meaningful inferences from the world and people around you.
Diplomacy allows you to make sure other people draw the inferences and reach the conclusions you want them to.
Which one (if either) is better, and whether you would gain anything from History instead will depend entirely on what comes up in play and what kind of opportunities your DM allows/provides for their use.
