Discussion - General Discussion Thread XI

Hmm, this discussion couldn't have waited a week till I started updating the Thread Recompilation thread again? It would have seemed much less self serving then... :\
(I helped a little before I left, and it made me sad to see it on page 3)

O well, one way or the other, I'm starting that thread up again. I'm waist deep in RDI VIII as we speak and I wanted to get up a stock of threads before I started posting them. (To get me through the lean times(or the second half of Festival of Halina) 1200 posts? *cry*

Blah, bad timing.

Just posting to note I'm still pretty busy (helping with a move), but we should be done this week.
The worst of the move is done, all the heavy stuff is mostly in place, so I should be generally available again. Hopefully it won't take me too long to get back into the rythm.

I imagine the story coordinator was supposed to make sure all the adventures didn't present conflicting information.
There was also the idea of "GM-shared story arcs," something that I never managed to get off the ground.

Should I turn this into an official proposal?
Rae, I think the answer is definitely "yes"! And if so, perhaps Bront could move the discussion across to that thread - just so that we don't need to put it all in again.

Errm... what do you mean by `page'?

A thread that runs 600 posts is a 15-page adventure if you have your options set to 40 posts per page but a 20-page adventure if you have 30 posts per page. LEW rules should be using objective units of measurement, such as the post, rather than the page.
A good point.

So how do we decide on number of posts? The viewing options per page range from 20 to 50. I'd suggest we look at the upper limit, so Summary Credits = total thread count / 50, round down.

Hmm, I've just looked at "Strange Case of Aif Jenkins Farm", which just finished. Using my suggested formula of 1 credit per 50 posts, I would receive a minimum of 17 credits for summarizing the adventure - but Manzanita only received 10 credits for running it. Well, that's right out of whack, so let's rethink.

If it were 1 credit per 100 posts, then that would be 8 credits (possibly more) for summarizing it. I still think that's a bit generous (it seems to me that there's more work to be done in running the adventure than in summarizing it), so what about 1 credit per 150 posts? That would give a minimum of 5 credits for the summary (which is half of what Manz received). I know that there's at least one NPC & institution in there, so that'd be another 1 or 2 points. Hmm, that's more like it, IMHO.

I think the comparison of credits for the GM (based on time) vis-a-vis credits for summary (based on volume of info) might be misleading for games of a fast or slow speed. For instance, A Teacher for Laynie was shorter in time than Immortality Awakens, but it has a lot more material. Also, games with many characters in them and combats (or both) tend to have a lot of posts with no actual difficult summary at all. In contrast, A Teacher for Laynie had almost no combat until the end, and after Logicsfate dropped, we only had 1 PC left, so there were a lot of GM posts (which are more substantial for summary purposes usually).
