Fant's levelled up, too. Ditto on Jack's question about assuming we're back (Fant will just enter the inn in a few days, assuming no-one objects). Also- how much money should we assume to have gotten? Jack got his hand on a +1 short sword. The orginal offer of pay was 500 gold pieces, which Fant would be just fine with. Coming back empty-handed would be cool too. Gives Fant a reason to storm in to the Red Dragon Inn pissed off, which is always a good roleplay opportunity. :)

Aside from the 500 gp payment (I forgot about that! :o), Quickwhip got a MW greatsword (~300gp), and we had a sack full of candlesticks and a scroll. If the other judges agree, I'd consider it fair if the loot in the sack amounted to about 1000 gp for each of you (about how much Jack would get if he sold the magic sword), once sold... As profit-minded as Jack is, he could only consider that fair, since he's got a shiny new sword, enough cash to buy a new set of gear, and bit of money left over besides.

One thing worth noting that I just realized-

The sword is a short sword made of bone. It has a -1 penalty on attack and damage because it has been made of an inferior material. It is made for Medium-sized creatures.

Although it would be kickin' to just give Jack a cool looking shortsword, appropriately sized with no strings attached. :)

Guh... Forgot about that.

Maybe one of the other judges will take pity on me... :(
Otherwise, it's just a really expensive, over-sized shortsword to Jack.

Hello

I was already to play, made my character, submitted it on the thread, then went to the Red Dragon like the threads say too. =Put on my Roleplaying face and prepared how I would introduce myself to others, then I saw that the thread is closed.

So, if I can't go the the Red Dragon Inn to join a game, where am I to go?

Every umpteen pages or so, the Red Dragon Inn thread gets closed and a new one opened. You probably went to a previous chapter. The current tavern thread is

At the very least, the game started 8 months ago <800XP>. I know that you folks earned another 200XP ata bare minimum, so go ahead and Level your characters to 2nd. I will go back through (again) and try and figure out a fair tangible amount.

Uriel, I've made a post for Experience and Treasure for the Slaying the Dreamer adventure. It amounts to a modest amount of XP and treasure... just about enough per character for early 2nd-level characters.

Since I was a player in the game, I'd feel much better, though, if you (or another judge) would confirm or adjust the awards.

I'm fine with your XP and treasure tallies, other than the 500 GP that was the original offer.
Since you folks didn't finish the Quest, the NPC didn't pay you right?
I much prefer that he stiffed you, opening up the possibilities for a revnge adventure even (If some other DM wanted to run such a thing...Kill Bill, er...Janos Audron).

Hirelings, Henchmen and NPC's

Hello,

I am new to the whole play by post thing and I think it is great so far, even though I have yet to get into an adventure. I do have a question about hirelings and such.

I read in the FAQ that you want to not limit the players, that you want to make all the rules in the Core Book available, and perhaps others in the future.

Well, I made a character named Robillard and I gave him an eighteen CHR and the skill focus Diplomacy feat (I was thinking of a Leadership based character for the long run, DMG 3.5 page 106), relying on the fact that I could hire a hireling as stated in the PHB 3.5 page 129, under spellcasting and services, hireling (trained) 3sp a day.

I looked up the hirelings in the DMG, 3.5 page 106, mercenary, and decided that I have 113 extra gold and would like better protection than a 1st level warrior (if you look at Robillards character, he wouldn't last a minute in combat) so I opted for the mercenary leader, who can be 2nd level or higher for an extra 3 sp per level, however, I didn't want a warrior, I wanted a rogue who could pick up the slack for what I was sacrificing by puting all my skill points in CHR based skills, so I looked at the NPC section and geared up a rogue for 5th level, under the guidelines in the DMG 3.5, page 123.

There are no guidelines for hiring an NPC (that I saw), or a DM to do the Diplomacy checks to see if I could strike a better deal or improve the attitude of the NPC, but this is what I figure, if a 5th level warrior, one of five non standard character classes, would be 15 sp per day on a month to month contract, then perhaps a 5th level NPC in a normal class as define in the DMG 3.5, pages 110-128, would cost, say, twice as much, so 30 sp, or 3 gp, a day for a month to month contract, not including any wiggle room for a good diplomacy check which I would get a +13 on, sure to lower the price a bit, but reguardless, 90gp for a months protection of that caliber, not to shabby.

I guess I am asking any DMs out there to check my characters for approval, they have been up for a week now, and also to rule on whether my third character, Robillard, can hire an NPC body guard rogue (I got bored waiting for action in the Inn or for someone to check the first character that I made, so I made three, sorry if the is unacceptable).

All of my characters are on the character thread, including the 5th level rogue hireling NPC bodyguard as outlined in the rules previously stated (told ya I was bored).

So, I know that all you DM types are busy, but can I get feed back on this please?
