This is a good idea. If you need someones stats you could always just use the search tool, or CTRL+F for their name.

Edit-zors:
So, I've began writting up the adventure. I'll need five people who are interested in solving a murder. I have two questions:
1) Should I recruit here? Or in the RDI?
2) Should I send the judges the finished game plan? Or just the outline?

Don't forget Sunny P if you are looking for players!

I thought that was the point of the links on the front page?

I don't have a problem with hiding crunch and any non-public fluff. Though, having everything out in the open could help players check and balance each other (or give you ideas).

I wouldn't advocate putting restrictions on who can view the character. I think that the transparency is a good thing.

But as Jdvn1 said, it would help keep the thread neater.

It would also put the emphasis on the descriptive rather than the mechanical. On the odd occasions that I do check the charcter thread, its because I want a better picture of who I am talking to. For example; physical build, current appearance, items of note, personality. The kind of things that would be reasonably apparent upon meeting someone. I'm not so interested in the stats or class or those other crunchy bits except to the extent that they affect the above.

Just a thought.

thotd.

Actualy, I was just looking at the thread. Any way someone could move any retired characters or characters where the player hasn't been on the forums for more than 6th months, to a different thread? Create an active and retired character thread basicly. Someone comes back, you (or they) move it back.

Not sure if this needs to be a proposal, but seems like a good idea.

Modifiying the character thread to dump inactive/never-used chacters has been discussed and Creamsteak has indicated it is on his EN to do list. Perhaps someone else should take the initiative. It's not a big deal, perhaps, but I think we would all like to have a better idea of how many characters there really are out there.

Those haven't been kept up with, though. I know that none of my characters have links on the first page.

I thought someone mentioned before that inactive/never-used characters won't be dumped because sometimes people come back to play them. Possibly, an email could be periodically sent to the people to ask if their characters could be dropped.
