I think we're waiting on the judge ruling on taking a 10.

I don't see this directly referenced in the RAW. I would think the wizard would have to actually roll the die. If it were as simple as taking 10, I think that would be in there.

My wizard is in the same boat. As soon as his monetary rewards are finalized, he will be on this thread making his rolls to try to copy spells from a captured spellbook into his primary spellbook.

Taking 10: When your character is not being threatened or distracted, you may choose to take 10.
I sure hope a mage studying to scribe a scroll is not being threatened. I know there are some specific examples in the PHB about this (I think one is craft, not sure on scribing).

You also never mentioned about craft. The general question is, is a player allowed to take a 10 on any in between adventure checks?

Wow you have the 100gp/spell level/spell needed to write those into your book, my character is 4th level and have 51gp in coin to his name. Course his magic stuff is nice and all, but he needs money!

Had 2000 gold pieces. No more. :D

Just making sure of something before I do it:

GMs are allowed to make up their own monsters and/or use monsters from non-MM sources with impunity, right?

Not a judge, but I'd say yes on the former, but be careful on the latter. We are generally against non OGL content hereabouts. So Minions or Creature Collection is one thing, MMII is quite another.

I can understand why we don't use non-OGL feats, spells, etc for PCs (because not all players have access to those books and we cannot post the material here), but if the monster is appropriately renamed and given a new appearance (or perhaps not even that), I don't see why there would be a problem using the stats of a monster from MMII or MMIII or maybe Sandstorm, which is why I'm asking because I could easily be wrong.

I believe for us judges, the consensus is, as long as the creature remains in only that adventure, or in some cases, campaign, it is allowable. For more than that, it needs to be approved.

That's all I wanted, thanks :)

I asked to use monsters from other sources (principally monster manual 3) on proposing my adventure, and it was aproved for purpose of the module.

I realize Knight Otu just said about the same thing, just giving an example of the policy in practice. Feel free to read through Faerie Woods if you would like, several MM3 monsters in there. Same goes for the Burning Tower -- I remember using a Warforged Juggernaut among other critters.
