Wizards are pretty complicated. I assumed I could 'take 10' on his spellcraft rolls. I started a thread about that in any case.

I was seeing that there was alot of talk about characther tracking and cleaning out the characther thread, and I had a bunch of extra time today so I decided to find out where all the active characters were...turned out that was a stupidly daunting task so I looked toword cleaning out the thread and I learned two thing, There is a hella lot of inactive characthers and alot of people hit the dusty trail at the beginning of this year never to return, while I finish up my work in the thread and get some sleep I was hoping someone knows, why the mass exodus? Really I'm just curious.

Play-by-post can be very slow, and a lot of people get dissatified with it. Moreover, there's a snowballing effect. If one person in a game disappears, the game bogs down waiting for that person, and the rest are more likely to give up. If you look at adventure threads, watching both the posting dates and the identities of posters who stick it through, you'll see it can be hit-or-miss. The ones that lose posters lose multiple posters; the ones that keep moving tend to keep players active.

Moral of the story: if, for whatever reason, you have to abandon LEW (and I hope it isn't in mid-adventure, but if it is...) please, PLEASE, announce this in a post. Don't just go missing. Your game will go on without you if everybody knows not to wait for you. On the other hand, if they're all waiting for you and you're never going to be coming back, you can end up killing a game.

On a related topic: a while ago the character judges started posting links to character sheets in the first post. That was stopped after the first 80 or so. As the character thread has grown, I've started to miss the easy lookup. So, a couple of days ago I decided to see if I could get that list updated. I've mostly done the ones at the end of the thread, since the most recent characters are the most likely ones to be still in play. If you look at the list of hyperlinks in the first post, you'll see that the characters number 161 and up are now included, although numbers 91-160 are not.

The lack of links is what made me hit the first wall, I had assumed if they were linked then that ment they were approved... That theory fell apart fast, but I will have a list of inactive characters up in about 30 minutes to an hour and then hopefully some people can help me with any mistakes made


I don't know if a visable list will accually help things, but I hope that it will make creating a retired charather thread eisier if it even gets made to begin with

It doesn't help that some posters are more regular than others, so you get a game that gets set by the pace of the fastest and slowest poster.

Not sure of a good way to fix that and still keep a game moving. Obviously, just need to make sure a character gets a chance to do something, and a GM can just do what he can to make sure someone isn't lost because thy can't get a post in edge wise.

PbPs aren't perfect, but with a little work by everyone, they can be done well.

ALRIGHT disclaimer time
I took all characthers that appeared to be Idle and put them in a list
Even if the player is very active, if the characther hadn't been touched for a long time it's hopefully here
I classified each one(kinda)

Retire means I'm very certin that the character is going to be played again

Check on it probly retire means the characther looks idle and so has the player I'll doo my best to make sure none of these are in use

Check on it means the player is active and we can just ask if their still using the character or I don't know the players statis

I spent the last hour or so adding all the names so someone could look at the list and say hey that's my characther I'm still using him/her and I'd say *edit*

Sorry if I did anything to insult anyone anytime

Any suggestions on making that eisier to read?
