Discussion of Scotley's upcoming 4e Swashbuckler Game

The 'little devil thing' isn't even there. 'Devil' is 'Teufel' in German, no real connection to 'Tief'. And a 'little devil' would be 'Teufel-chen' and not 'Teuflling'. 'Teufel-chen' is BTW the official translation in German D&D books for 'imp'.
Interestingly enough, there is a lawyer here in my town whose last name is Teufel! Strange, because he's really a nice guy, too.
[sblock=pq1's wiki addition]Added a little bit to the wiki, about lost ancient empires: At'alantia (lost island nation of the genasi, a people of the primal elements who claimed to have begun the modern system of arcane magic- a claim hotly denied by the eladrin) and the Empire of Brass (an ancient realm of dragonborn, ruled by the two dragons-become-gods- and then destroyed in the civil wars which heralded the divine ascenscion of Bahamut and Tiamat. The remnants of this fallen empire live on in the desolate ruined lands ruled by numerous petty dragonborn warlords, with their kobold lackies and human slaves- most scholars and traders refer to the area as the Draconic Kaliphates, and some of the dragonborn leaders seek to establish fame by sending emissaries to more civilized couts- like Franzia).[/sblock]
Cool stuff, pq1! Manous Artouche grew up here in France, but I guess I could do some work on his 'uncivilized' people of origin back on the North American continent.

Oh! Oh! That's good! What about this though...what if we make two ancient empires. The atlanteans which were genasi...elemental humanoids...and the ancient dragon empire which we can put in South and Central America. Dragonborn and their draconic masters, also elemental in nature, but far from humanoid. As they tried to expand out into the ocean, they encountered the genasi... The two empires warred, until an incredibly powerful draconic spell caused Atlantis to collapse into the sea. But by then the dragon empire was in shambles...its coffers expended, and far too many hard-to-replace dragon lives lost. The dragonborn remain, with their primitive cults of the feathered serpents (Incan/Mayan analogues), but their empire faded long, long ago.

Good Stuff!

So how's the game coming along Scotley?

Things are preceding well actually. I would like to get more stuff on the wiki, but I guess there is no rush. I can reveal more history and royal stuff as we go along.

I have a couple questions for everyone, okay really several but they fall into three broad categories.

1) How are you coming on your characters? How soon do you expect to be ready to play? Any questions I haven't answered? Any help you need?

2) How does everyone feel about starting with a sort of pre-quel? We'll just go right into the action of a fight to give everyone a chance to test their builds and the mechanics of 4e if you are relatively new to it. If something doesn't work the way you want it to we can tweak the characters afterward and then begin the main game. I can be ready to do this by the end of the week if the characters are ready.

3) What's your posting schedule like? As in time of day, days of the week.

For example: I can usually check in about every other weekday during the day and post more heavily on weekend mornings. That's when most of my design work happens. I can usually post a little Sunday evening as well. Sometimes work or family gets busy and I may not post for two or three days. (I'm on central time in the US of A)

I need to put some work into my PC...mainly adjusting him for some of the recommendations I've had, then adding equipment, and then fleshing out background and such. Every weekend I think I'm going to have spare time to do it, stuff comes up. I'm going to do my best to get him completed by the end of this next weekend.

No problem with this.

3) What's your posting schedule like? As in time of day, days of the week.

I'm generally on M-F, and should be able to post at least once each of those days. I'm sometimes on during the weekends, but it is really hit and miss.

My character is done and posted on the Wiki. Just looking for a good pic now. )

Sounds good!

It would be misleading to say I have a 'schedule.' My days are generally more unpredictable than that. I most often post in evenings and weekends, but exceptions are the rule.

I've got my PC roughed out (both background and mechanics) but have been busy and haven't finalized.

Typically M-F are good (unless I'm out at a client), weekends are a bit sketchier. Some mornings the kids play well on their own and so I can check on things a bit, sometimes not so much and I play referee instead.

Colin is done and posted to both the RG and the Wiki. I want to come up with an actual backstory for him (aside from the little prose I wrote about him going to Franzia). That's rather non-essential at this point, though.

I am fully on board with this idea (I even bought a monthly pass). I'm ready to go whenever you are.

Most of the time, I am on at work. Yes, I am blessed with a job that allows me to screw around on the Internet relatively unscathed. I can post M-F 8-5 ish U.S. Eastern time. I usually check the boards once an evening and sporadically on the weekends.
