Discussion of Scotley's upcoming 4e Swashbuckler Game

Aislinn is finished crunch-wise, and I could RP with her as well. I'm struggling with back-story (due to time more than anything - need to sit down and do some thinking about Avalon) but I've got her general idea nailed down. I've got her page on the Wiki but haven't posted anything there.

I'm up for a tune up fight or two.

I typically post at least once a day. It's often more than that, but sometimes less. Mornings and evenings are when I'm on the most, but I sometimes am able to log on during the day as well.

1) How are you coming on your characters? How soon do you expect to be ready to play? Any questions I haven't answered? Any help you need?

WIlhelm's been done, though I haven't done anything on the Wiki.

2) How does everyone feel about starting with a sort of pre-quel? We'll just go right into the action of a fight to give everyone a chance to test their builds and the mechanics of 4e if you are relatively new to it. If something doesn't work the way you want it to we can tweak the characters afterward and then begin the main game. I can be ready to do this by the end of the week if the characters are ready.

Fine by me.

3) What's your posting schedule like? As in time of day, days of the week.

MWF are less busy than TR, but I check regularly.

Ali is ready to go. I'm still working on background.

Ready for a fight.

Post here and there as others post, usually 7 days a week, unless I'm out and about.

Thayoon is ready to go, though he's not on the wiki. I haven't sketched his pic out yet either.

I'm fine with a prequel.

I check the site several times throughout the day, and if I have something to say at that time I'll post it. ;)

My character is done and posted on the Wiki.

Great idea!

I can better post in the week. May have some posting issues every second week because of family trips.

Oh! Oh! That's good! What about this though...what if we make two ancient empires. The atlanteans which were genasi...elemental humanoids...and the ancient dragon empire which we can put in South and Central America. Dragonborn and their draconic masters, also elemental in nature, but far from humanoid. As they tried to expand out into the ocean, they encountered the genasi... The two empires warred, until an incredibly powerful draconic spell caused Atlantis to collapse into the sea. But by then the dragon empire was in shambles...its coffers expended, and far too many hard-to-replace dragon lives lost. The dragonborn remain, with their primitive cults of the feathered serpents (Incan/Mayan analogues), but their empire faded long, long ago.

For now, I'm inclined to leave the write-up as it is. It ties into the idea mentioned earlier of using dragonborn as Moors, and I like the idea of reptilian critters as desert/mountain based, rather than jungle. It doesn't matter at this stage, as we don't have anyone from that race or territory, and I doubt it will be a plot-point. As far as not-Central America and northern not-South America, I was considering a more feral/bestial option. An ancient empire whose worship of primal animal spirits grew warped by a particularly demonic beast-god, and their civilization descended into cannibalism, sacrificial rites, and savagery. The people who embraced that path grew into gnolls and lycanthropes, while those who managed to hold on to some morality, and a deeper connection to their original primal spirits, became shifters- those allowing Mayan jaguar-knights to be made with real jaguars. I'll try to get something written up for that as well, but again, this seems to be pure background detail for now- though a visitor from Tezcatla might might make some interesting mistakes about Manous, as they might have dealt with his original people.

As far as being ready goes, I'm ready now in spirit, but that's not gonna pay the sewer bill, is it? I'll try to follow Rhun's timetable and have Manous properly situated by, say, a week from this Saturday?

And regarding any 'mistakes' by anyone about Manous caused by having dealt with his original people, that would probably just freak him out to no end since he's pretty much 'France-ified' [Frankified? Frankfurterified?] now. :heh:

Hm! Maybe that's where you get Shifters and Lycanthropes from...

Edit - Of course, on a more careful reading, I see you actually mention both of those. Oy, that'll teach me to post when it's late. :)
