4e changes from 3e?

I've been reading the rules to see about Ali throwing his sword into melee. So the 4e rules allow for enemies to provide concealment for other enemies, but your friends do not provide concealment. I cannot find anything negative about ranged attacks into melee. Am I missing something?

Lou, in the absence of a specific rule, which I can't find either, I would rule if I was DM that the target had Superior Cover (-5 to attack roll) See Stonegod's response that follows this post.

Then you are making 1/2 of classes useless. There is no firing into melee penalty so long as there is no other cover.

There are a lot fewer circumstance penalties in the game. Fewer bonuses as well.

Interesting how that works out.

Condition attacker is in.
Cover and/or concealment of target
condition of target

the roll.... It really is simplified. I see advantages to waves of attackers and swarming attacks.

Lou, do me a huge favor, please? The next time you can't find a rule, why don't you just assume that there's NOT such a rule, instead of giving me a golden opportunity to make an a** of myself? ;)

I suppose not. That's one of my FEAT powers, as opposed to you - you have that as an AT WILL power! :p

I appreciate you trying to help. I've still got a lot to learn about 4e. Here are a couple of shortcuts I'm using that others might find helpful.
