Discussion of Scotley's upcoming 4e Swashbuckler Game

Nilbogs are from the old 1E Fiend Folio. Can't remember any specifics, though, except I think they are kinda like goblins?

And that isn't right, either...since tempest technique only applies to off-hand weapons.

- Lifedrinker Rapier +1: +8 (+2 level, +4 str, +1 weapon bonus, +1 for light blade expertise)
- Rhythm Blade Shortsword +1: +9 (+2 level, +4 str, +1 weapon bonus, +1 for light blade expertise, +1 tempest technique for off-hand weapon)

I must have been counting something twice!

Actually, I forgot something important, if you are using a weapon you are profiecient with, you get a bonus for that weapon in 4e. +3 for Rapier and Short Sword. +2 for most weapons.

What's a nilbog?

Nilbogs are a race of magical goblins that are healed by receiving damage and are damaged by healing spells. The name is "goblin" spelled backward, a reference to this reversal of effects. I thought they came from Forgotten Realms, but maybe it was Fiend Folio--lots of crazy stuff in that one.

THAT'S WHAT IT WAS!

I knew I had saw that, but I couldn't remember where it came from.

Kinda nifty the way they traded the non-proficiency penalty for a Proficiency Bonus in 4E. Much more player-friendly, I think.

And they may also be in the old 1E Forgotten Realms as well as newer editions, but the first place that I saw them was in FF, I think. Back then, I was reading and even subscribing to Dragon, too, so I may have seen a write up in there. I hate getting old!
