Discussion of Scotley's upcoming 4e Swashbuckler Game

My fighter feels pretty week next to everybody else too. LOL. Is this a design goal of 4E? To more evenly match all of the classes in combat?
Hey, the fighter is supposed to do less damage (unless you use the Slayer build) as he is a defender. But Executioner and Thief are both strikers. And I don't think the Executioner gets to many status effects instead.

(But the ability to attack Ref with a non-base attack is nice.)

Ah, see...I'm still a bit confused with the roles and all of that. :)

Your damage might be low compared to a striker, but you probably have the best AC and maybe other defenses as well. You also should have more hit points than the rest of us. You likely have ways to mitigate damage that the strikers don't.

Your goal is to get the enemies to want to attack you and pay a price if they choose not to attack you. Getting attacked more often means you should have better defenses and hit points than the rest of us. It also means the Leaders (ie healers) pay more attention to keeping you going.

I most often play leaders, so I would put it this way:
The defenders job is that the other players are less attacked. If he does the job right, the Leader can concentrate almost all healing on him.
But if the controller gets hit, he is needing healing faster, as he has much less HP than the defender.

A defender is a kind of melee controller, taking away options (movement, target choice) from the enemy, or making all options suck for the enemy.

Hmm...checking my math. It is possible I did something stupid, like count WF twice, or add in 1/2 character level.

I will know better once I get home and check my original sheet.

Though, WD, if I recall right you do base damage of 2d8+6, which means your average damage is 15. The same as the average damage on 1d8+11. So there's no puniness going on that I can see, even if my damage calc is accurate.

Hm! it does appear there was an error in my math. The damage should be 1d8+9.

NOW who's the pathetic damage-dealer?! :(
