Discussion of Scotley's upcoming 4e Swashbuckler Game

Scott, you might want to edit the first post in this thread and take out the "upcoming" from the thread title. I think it already came up!

True on both counts. I'm happy to put up a mention for whoever follows Aislinn in the order. She also has one (maybe two) immediate interrupts - those will have to happen outside the initiative order as well. Nothing's going to work perfectly, of course, but something's got to work better than what we're doing. I'm completely lost as far as who's where and doing what to whom. I've got an immediate interrupt or two that could really be helpful, but I have no idea when or where to use them.

I was sort of wondering how immediate interrupts would work in PBP, as I think my Fighter has one of those things.

If it triggers off a player, just post after them. If it triggers off the DM, either:
1) Post "if X happens, it triggers Y"
2) Post after the DM that "X's Z triggered my Y"
I've seen both. Usually the former for powers like Shield.

Opportunity Attacks are also a bit of a nuisance in PbP. I suppose the DM can just assume that you take the OA and roll for you, to speed things up. Most of the time, you aren't getting multiple OAs in the same round anyway, and even if you are, these aren't immediate actions, so you can do as many OAs as are provoked (as long as you're not dazed or stunned or blinded or something).

Sounds like that is probably the best way to handle it. It is how I do it in my 3.x games.

Yes indeed. I plan to close out this thread and start a fresh OOC thread once this little tune up dust up is done with.

Good discussion here. I have to agree that the large group necessitates keeping chatter to a minimum in the main thread.

I won't enforce a strict post in initiative order rule because I understand that some folks have limited opportunity to post. That said, if you post early and someone else's action screws you up we'll have to adjust.

I strongly encourage you to discuss your tactics in the ooc thread rather than all acting independently. You'll not only reduce confusion, but also be more effective. As some of you with more experience in my games know, I do sometimes toss foes out that are way above your level. A little teamwork might come in handy.

It is worthy of note that this current fight is balanced for your level, yet I damn near killed two characters the first round...

Now that I'm back from being out of town and had a chance to review the combat, Ali's action last round needs to be changed.

1. If the orc at K14 was already dead, then Ali can't use his daily power on him. That attack needs to change to Lightning Lure on the orc that ended up on L13. A hit will move him to K13 next to Ali at J14.

2. Which orc hit Colin? Was it that one that Ali marked? If so, then he was at -2 to hit and damage is reduced by 7 hp. If not, then the orc that thinks he hit Colin may have missed due to Ali's immediate interrupt--that attack probably hits another orc instead.
