Discussion of Scotley's upcoming 4e Swashbuckler Game

Cool, it means one more step, but I can have a spiffier map. If you want to have an icon rather than the character's name on the maps come up with a pic about 50 by 50 pixels. If you just come up with a small pic I can make it work.

Your new name shall be Scotley Fancypants!

pic for Manous

There are already two good pics of Manous in the RG, or here's another one you could use. :) If given the choice, I'd choose the pic in the RG of the Armored Manous.

Leif brings up an interesting situation. I had Ali mark the orc that ended up attacking Leif's Manous. With Ali's mark on the orc, it is -2 to attack Manous or anyone else but Ali. Ali can also remove 7 damage from any one attack by the marked enemy on anyone but Ali.

If Leif's Manous decides to mark the orc that he attacks, then Ali's mark is removed and the benefit that goes with it.

So Leif (and any other player who's character can mark) needs to decide if his character should supersede the mark of Ali (or Manous, etc.) or leave it on and get the benefit of Ali's (or the other character's) mark.

This situation arises because swordmages can mark at a distance of 3 without an attack, while I think Paladins mark enemies they hit. I'd have to look up the other characters that can mark to see how they mark.

Fighters mark what they attack (hit or miss), paladins mark anything, but have to "engage" it to keep the mark (atk or end adjacent).

Has marking been updated to remove the player's choice of marking? The PHB specifically says that Fighters can choose.

Combat Challenge
In combat, it’s dangerous to ignore a fighter. Every
time you attack an enemy, whether the attack hits or
misses, you can choose to mark that target.

The PHB also says that Paladins can choose who to mark.

Divine Challenge
The challenge of a paladin is filled with divine
menace. You can use the divine challenge power to
mark an enemy of your choice.

For this time, Lou, I'm afraid Manous would choose to mark the orc he is attacking, thereby superseding Ali's mark. Next time, however, things will be different if I can help it! ;)

Lou in IC Thread said:
OOC: I lost track exactly which orc got marked when it moved round before last. Ali deliberately marked a distant orc instead of a local one to force movement and try to create opportunity attacks by his friends. See the marking discussion in the OOC thread.
What I've highlighted in red is a really super-cool idea! Why didn't I think of that before! (Please don't answer that?)

Marking, as well as other effects of your powers, is always optional. You can choose to mark an enemy, just as you can choose whether or not to slide an enemy, knock it prone, teleport it, etc.

So Lucien doesn't automatically mark the enemy when he attacks, he has to choose to do so?
