Discussion on Flying in d20 Modern

I've thinking about flight (creatures with wings or fly spells) lately and was wanting to get some opinions on the subject from the rest of you...

Is it to powerful for d20 Modern in general? To powerful for characters below a certain level?

would you allow characters the ability in your own games?

stuff like that.....just want opinions on the matter.

Well, you already have airplanes, the Pilot skill, a few feats that help with flying, etc... I think it should work just fine.

Well, seeing as most most opponents you will be fighting most likely will be armed with shotguns and other weapons that can shoot you out of the sky, I don't see any visible problems. I haven't played around too much with d20 modern thought, so I could be wrong.

Fly is a third level spell of rather limited duration... Flying wouldn't be a trivial ability even in a game with more ranged weapons. I agree it's probably not as significant as it was in D&D, but still an important and pricey ability.

In my own D&D campaigns, as there wasn't a 'piloting' skill, I let natural flyers use the Tumble skill for stunts. In D20 Modern, I'd probably still do that, but let natural fliers with 5 or more ranks of Tumble get a +2 synergy bonus to Piloting checks while making any sort of wild manuevers. A winged elf knows how to land himself, but that woulnd' help with landing a jumbo jet, but hes experience in aerial acrobatcis could have some aplication behind the stick of an F-15 in a dog fight...
