Disney sues Midjourney

It is an interesting question. Generative AI is an unambiguously powerful and useful technology. But it requires a huge amount of data to train. So, how do we (as a society, I mean) build it ethically?

You see lots of people just dismiss the technology completely based on how it was created, but that doesn't answer the bigger, frankly more important questions.
Pay people when you use their work? It's not like companies like Meta are hurting for cash, they're just choosing to create their tools through theft.

I'm sure actual artists would have something to say about that "one more" thing being them replaced and not providing for their families?
They've gotten dragged for the live action remakes, most recently the change to how lio and stich ended. Dragged over Star wars, marvel etc.

I'm sure the artist have contracts at least i hope they do, otherwise Disney may weigh the pros and cons, and switch to AI generation. In which case, I'd expect a strike along with law suits from the artist.

That's fine and seems simple.

But what about the data from message boards, like this one. If OpenAI makes a deal with ENWorld to use all the contents of these boards in their training data (not insignificant) am I, Reynard, entitled to some of that money (proportional to the amount of words of mien that are published here)?

Anyone who offers you a simple solution to a complex problem is either lying or not thinking it through.
