Dispel Magic in a Ring o' Counterspells?

1) can a person place a dispel magic in a Ring of Counterspells

2) If an incoming targeted dispel hits the wearer of the Ring of Counterspells (with dispel magic in the ring), does the wearer have to make a caster level check v.s. the targeted dispel? Or is it just automatically countered.

1) Sure.

2) Automatically countered. Dispel magic is treated like any other spell when it comes to being countered.

1: yes

2: no check needed, if the incoming dispel is EXACTLY the same as that in the ring. If you have Dispel Magic in the ring, and someone fires a Greater Dispel Magic at you ... a caster level check is required.

I would say if you have a Dispel Magic in the ring, and someone fires a Greater Dispelling at you, the ring says "Not my problem", and lets it past.

"... should that spell ever be cast upon the wearer..."

Greater Dispelling is not "that spell", so the ring doesn't trigger.

Hyp's right on this one.

What Hyp said.

The same is also true if it's a Greater Dispelling in the ring and someone casts a targeted Dispel Magic on the wearer. Even though the spell in the ring is...well, Greater...than the one being cast on him, it's a different spell, so it will not trigger and counterspell the casting.
