Dissertation -- Done ?!!

First Post
Today, I turned in my dissertation. In a little over two weeks, I'll have to sit in front of four professors and explain myself.

It checked in at 120 pages and took me the better part of a year to write it.

I feel slightly relieved, but knowing I still have to defend it then make corrections takes some of the air out of my balloon.

Now, however, I can concentrate on important things, like making a character for Cthulhu's Librarian's new game and catching up on ENWorld story hours. :D

Oh yeah, I also have to find a job. So if anyone out there in ENWorld knows of any Social Foundations of Education or Philosophy of Education assistant professor positions at your local institution of higher education, drop me a line.

Thanks for the well wishes. Hopefully, the defense will go smoothly. My committee is a good one; no one is out to get me or anything (I have heard horror stories).

The dissertation is on judgment and education. I have some examples of judgment in education (zero tolerance polices, admissions decisions, grading), argue that, most of the time, judgment procedes according to a certain model that is flawed, then argue for another model that is more responsive to individual situations and helpful for growth. I then apply that model to the aforementioned examples and argue that cultivating judgment should be an important goal of the educational process.

Hey, you asked. :p

I don't think I will have a crowd at my defense. Probably just my committee and my wife. I have always dreamed about having people come like it was a sporting event, complete with big foam fingers and cheers when I make a good point or answer a question well.

You better be careful what you wish for... I know some people who I can convice to do this.

"Actaully, Dr. Hoffman, I will let Perrin, Paladin of Pelor, field that question."

Remember Perrin's questioning during the meeting with the caravan guard commander? About distributing food to the refugees? Are you sure you want to turn him loose during your defense?
