As someone whose first AD&D character was a gnome, I can sympathize.

On the other hand ... I bet races will be one of the easiest things to re-introduce or meld into a new edition.

I'm guessing rules for Gnomes will be, the very first D&D insider web enhancement. Bards could be the second.

Now that I think about it, there's only been TWO Gnome PCs ever in my campaigns. My wife played one in my EXILES reality jumping group (and she hated it), and the other was a one-shot group that featured nothing but peasants. Everyone was a level 1 commoner and they were the sole survivors of they're destroyed village. Unfortunately, he was beaten to death with a garden hoe by a fellow PC because the other player's character "didn't like gnomes". It was hilarious! And like a train wreck, I let it happen... lol..

One more thing: I'd like to see a couple human subraces by environment. That would be a lot more useful to many games. It simplifies a lot of the culture stuff the DM has to design.

Gah! Bad idea! Do we really need special rules for Inuit? Besides, it's basically impossible to write something like that without offending members of a real life ethnic group.
