Well, you're giving them an additional save at a hefty bonus.
That minimises their chances of getting worse anyway, plus if they roll well enough, they get to stand up after spending a surge.
Especially if they're getting additional bonuses from an item or a feat, it's a good deal all round.
I'd bet on it even if on a poor roll the PC dies.
The game is about making choices based on the numbers at your disposal.
And that's fun.
To counter your "it's not fun?" comment, cheating to win is not fun.
