Divine Power - Finally some nifty new toys for the clerics and paladins out there...

Very little.

The focus (in this edition) is clearly on the bright side of the alignment spectrum (even more than before), I think.

There is some mentioning of evil deities in the domains section, and there are some powers, that do not deal radiant damage, but far from going the opposite direction (necrotic).

What do you guys think about the new "pacifist" cleric At-Will Astral Seal?

It seems a great second choice for a ranged cleric. Better than Gaze of Defiance (*) (which pre-DP was the second choice after the obvious first, Sacred Flame, IMHO).

(*) replace Gaze of Defiance with Lance of Faith, if you do not know what it is... it's a power card from the miniature packs, I think it's also available at DDI.

That's a shame. One of the really annoying and ridiculous things about 4E divine characters is the whole divine = radiant energy theme. Every divine character from a devoted cleric of Amaunator, to a battle cleric of Tempus, to an Avenger of Lloth, to an undead cleric of Shar are dripping with radiant powers. This is just stupid.

Yeah, radiant is certainly all over the place for clerics.

I don't really mind it, since I do not consider evil a valid alignment for PCs normally (there are exceptions, but on average it's reserved for the bad guys).

Still, there could be more variety, than the shiny holy lighty thingy for sure.

They probably should have just gone and called radiant divine. Would have saved a bit of that "My evil cleric of darkness shoots shiny happy energy?!" assuming that goes on. Radiant beat up divine, holy, lawful and evil energy and took their stuff.

What a pity - I think there's a lot of room for other clerics than the radiantly good.

And I'm tired of radiant damage - too many powers use it (not just divine powers, but mostly).
Radiant is the energy type that most monsters are vulnerable to, and very few have resistance against, so it's a no-brainer.

the way i get it to work in my head for me is to break the association of radiant=good/positive energy and instead think of it as radiant=energy channeled from the astral sea (which all gods are connected to, i believe, something like that)

Not really. Necrotic is evil energy.
