Leatherhead

Possibly a Idiot.
Example of this near impossibility? Fighters only have 1 opportunity or immediate interrupt, and same for wardens.

That's all you need for one enemy, and far more than the paladin gets from their mark.

The swordmage would like to have a word with you.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough, but the quote in that post mentioned both the (shielding) swordmage and the paladin, because they both have automatic marks. The "other defenders" in this case would be the fighter and the warden.

For those that have the book, is there anything in there for the Paladin that in any way relates to a mount? Or mounted combat?

Both enemies that monsters can often shift away from and charge some other character. The fighter gets to swat them on the way out (but not stop them), the Warden gets to drag them back. With certain powers, the Warden can drop some difficult terrain and make it harder for them to get away. Neither is able to always shut down all enemies.

The point is, the Paladin is very effectively able to discourage enemies through the automatic damage - it makes it a lose/lose scenario to try and target others. Remember that the reason they often attack other Characters is because they are a bigger threat than the Defender. By making it so that attacking those other allies automatically ramps up the Defender's threat to them, it makes it a very hard choice as to who that enemy should attack.

It doesn't make it a choice that will always go one way or the other - but that's a good thing. The roles just weight the odds on how things play out - if you could just plug everything in and only get one possible way for each battle to play out, the game wouldn't be very interesting at all.
