We pretty much skipped the chase scene. Bard turned Fugis invisible, then Disguise Self to look like Furgis. Actor Feat to convince all the cultists he WAS Furgis. And then he took off running into the city, saving the rest of our butts. Chase consisted of 1 roll, Bard ducked into an alley, Disguise Self to look like normal Mulmaster citizen, and saunter off into the crowd. The rest of us just made our way to the Faction contact with no trouble after doing a bit of healing up.

The thing about this is that it pretty much skips the entire point of HAVING a chase scene. The rules on it are fairly clear. You need to get enough successes to get out of there. Things you do can get you a success, but none of them succeed at getting away automatically.

Meanwhile, from a logical point of view, it's really easy to get away from them pretty much automatically, as you've said.

Which is my real problem with the chase scene. They've come up with new rules on how to succeed at running away when it would just be best if they said "The PCs can get away from their pursuers using any means at their disposal and any idea that is good enough gets them away." That would be fun and give players a chance to let their creativity shine. Instead, we get a fairly rigid set of rules on how to get away. A set of rules that will likely be completely different in the next adventure to come out.

Very short chase. found a narrow alley, dropped caltrops and ball bearings behind us, and we ran like mad for the faction contact. The chase was maybe three rounds, tops.
