DM Rewards

My son and I got our letters saying that the "Sea Hag" card was enclosed. But no card, just another copy of _Tomb of Horrors_. That makes 4 copies between us. :-(

I find it odd that they'd have all those extra copies of _Tomb of Horrors_ lying around. They knew how many people they were sending the DM Reward to, so they should have just printed that many copies. It's like they printed twice the number they needed, as so many of us are getting a second copy.

There are two waves of address-update rewards: June and August. The June people updated their contact information in the first 4-5 months of the year, and the August people updated during June or early July. A lot of people tend to sign up for the second wave after the first wave has gotten their mailing. So, it's harder for them to predict exactly how many they'll need.

Sucks you didn't get the card, but you could always Ebay the ToH copies you have and make a little dough.

Yup, that's exactly what I've already done. Given that I'm not going to play Ravenloft, I prefer it working out this way, but it's still odd that the letter says there's a card enclosed and there wasn't. I still would have rather gotten something Gamma World-related, though...

If I wasn't going to run _Tomb of Horrors_ at some point, I'd give it out to my players, though.

I think you are the exception rather than the norm. The focus here is to support game stores and the RPGA program, and I get why they do that. I think it is a shame that they are cutting back on DM Rewards, but I can see how they expect supporting game stores, rather than home games, to draw in more players for the hobby in the long run.

Yes, their track record of sending out awesome free items, tiles, adventures, minis and all sorts of other free stuff. For free. Clearly, now that they are giving out less free stuff in a more limited fashion, it is a sign they are evil. And bankrupt. And evil.

Seriously, though - I get people being upset about this reward. I think the real problem was the lack of any warning that it was changing, and this card coming along largely as an afterthought.

That said, comments about being 'ripped off' by WotC, or that they 'owe you' for running home games... aren't people running those for fun??? I mean, yes, I'm sure WotC is glad you are playing their game, but I don't think it is some sort of job that demands compensation from them.

I definitely understand being disappointed. But I can only complain so much about losing out on something that was being given to me for free.

I didn't say that they owe me or anyone else anything, but it's kind of sad that they went from giving out interesting and useful rewards to giving out something incredibly lame that doesn't have much to do with D&D. You'd think they would give something memorable as the last reward. Instead it's a glorified advertisement, and a very cheap one at that.

Wellllp...just got my *4th copy* of Tomb of Horrors. But this time, the envelope actually contained the Ravenloft board game card as well. So...yeah.
