From Andy's boards:

I worked on development for this book, so I'm familiar with its contents.

I think it's a very solid companion volume to the original DMG, full of both rules material for handling in-game situations that come up as well as tips on running a smooth game or campaign.

I imagine that Mat Smith will give it plenty of coverage on the Wizards site in upcoming months, but as it's still four months away, that'll have to wait a bit.

As far as cover color--maybe you've noticed, but "cover color" isn't really a defining element of a book any more. Between Minis Hdbk (burgundy), Libris Mortis (artwork), Frostburn (green), and Unearthed Arcana (a different green), there really isn't a strong pattern to cover colors any more. I'm not saying that's a good thing or a bad thing, it's just a thing.

And very few people would say it's a good thing ;)

*sigh*

And Unearthed Arcana has a black cover, not green.

Me? I'm all for brown = player expansion, blue = DM expansion and red = monster expansion (which should've been the color of Savage Species).

Each 'series' has its own design though. 'Environment' = greenish brown, 'Monster' = wrap around artwork, 'Races of...' = more traditional brown, 'Complete' = darker brown, etc.

Except that's not even true anymore, with the monster books changing the cover style with the upcoming release of the Book of Aberations, which has a blue-grey cover with framed art in the center.

Do you think the color matters? Seriously? Do you think a blue cover will make a player not read/buy a book? Or are you guys just nutso about how your bookshelf is organized? I'd rather wizards spend some more time editing, rather than worrying about shades of brown or whether if it fits the scheme.

The color of the book will not keep me from buying it, I am looking forward to this one actually. But with that said, why not keep with the color themes? It is easy to do and offers an easy way to look at a shelf full of books to draw your attention to the right area. It just shows a level of consistency to follow a theme sort of established with earlier books.

I kind of like the color scheme making sense. I guess I can be anal about my bookshelf, although at present it is completely out of order.

In particular, I like how all of the FR material shares a similar design, so at a glance I can tell if a book is FR or not.
