D&D General DMing New Year's Resolutions!

I resolve to finally put some of my homebrewed rule compendiums into a good, hefty pdf for people to download.

Last year's resolution was to become better at acting out NPC voices. I have... uh... worked on that one. Yes. Yeah.

I would like to flesh out my essentials campaign with some more message boards and another NPC party that acts as a foil for the PCs. I want to have things planned better before we start the campaign.

I don't think I stated any for last year.

For our Thur. night game:
*Do my best to keep it fun & entertaining.
*Do my best to include the following requested elements: as few Dragonborn as possible (unless they're to be slaughtered), a trip through CoS/Barovia/Ravenloft, Dragons! there must be dragons, PCs reach higher lv. (to date the highest lv has been 11th in play, 12th upon completion of previous campaign)
**The dragonborn thing is pretty easy to accomplish.
**The CoS request? Working on it. It was set up 2 different ways right from session #1, the players received 2 more hooks several weeks ago, and they're about to get 2 more....The players just have to take a hook. (I will NOT have the mists engulf them. I HATE that. If they don't choose to go to Barovia, oh well.)
**There will be dragons.
**PCs reaching higher lv is not wholly under my control. Though I will certainly set things up to accommodate that.

For the Fri. night game (plays every other week):
*Do my best to keep it fun & entertaining.
This is actually tougher than on Thur as I don't really want to BE the Fri evening DM.
*Get the party to about 5th/6th lv, maybe 7th(?) with a few key items that'll come in handy in Avernus.
Working on this...
*Get the party to Eltural (sp?) for some plausible reason - and then send the whole place to Hell.
(While I like most of the Baldurs Gate opening bit in Descent & will surely use it in some game? I find both the reason the PCs are A) helping the Fists, B) sent to planeshift into Avernus at about 5th lv just retarded.)
*Wrap this up by about June so that I can hand the reigns off to someone else. If we could play weekly I could accomplish this faster.... But we can't.
See, Fri is when it's supposed to be my turn to be a 5e player. I'm supposed to be able to play/not play on any given session as I wish. But I was essentially press-ganged into this one when the then current DM had to drop out due to a bad combo of work schedule + real life crap. Nobody else was prepared to run anything &, as the guy whom everyone knows can just spew this stuff out almost ad-lib, all heads turned towards me.... Conveniently I'd just bought the Avernus book the day before.
And NO, I will not simply TPK the group & be done with it. I have no qualms about killing characters, but I'm still a good sorta fair DM.

For the Sunday PF/PF2 game (currently as a player):
*Get more proficient with the PF2 system.
I guess I like PF2 well enough?? But there's something about it that just doesn't inspire me like 1e, 5e, or PF1 does. Not sure what it is yet. But whatever it is it's interfering with me caring about the mechanics.
*Come up with 2-3 interesting character concepts in case they're needed before the campaign ends (we're about to finish Vol.1 of the first PF2 AP)
*Along about Feb/March start seriously considering what I'll run when it's my turn as DM again. This includes system as we're not opposed to other games.
Ideally there's another person in the rotation ahead of me, but....

I'll also add make some terrain & paint some minis for each game I DM to this list.

Minis wise:
Continue my private quest to have at least one mini for everything listed in the 1e MM, MM2, & FF. Recent years have been really good for this as companies are digging into the bottom of the barrel for ideas of what to make!

Try once more to run a stripped-down rule-set for some of my young students.

I resolve to try to game more frequently in our Saturday campaigns. We try to game every 2-3 weeks, but we only managed to game 11 times in all of 2019.
