DM's: Player's Campaign Book Design Challenge (incl. House Rules)

Ah, found it... My wife really likes coming up with campaign handouts. Here's the one she came up with for her new Red Hand of Doom game (watch out, there may be a spoiler or two). It's 40 pages long and includes an index. For her, the Campaign is a way to ensure that everyone at least knows what their options are, even if they don't own all the splat books... Hence the long feats lists and such. She had printed, and comb bound it with cardstock covers.

Tell your wife she did an awesome job. That's a nice book. I especially like that you threw in a couple of maps.

Did you write that?

Not exactly... It's mostly stolen straight from the rulebook, with a bit of editing for brevity.

I keep thinking I should do the same with my houserules, but haven't quite had the time yet.

I'll definitely be stealing it for future IH games. :D

Help yourself.

We'll, there are templates here :)

I can remember back to my first house rulebook in the 80's for a home brew I did in high school. Hand-drawn art (one of our players was very good), maps, rumors, house rules (lots because it was 2.0), etc. If I find a copy, I'll upload it.

One more question: where is "Room 12" from on your EnWorld Sig Avatar?
I just noticed this question. I can't honestly tell you where it comes from. I picked it out of the standard ones available here. I actually wish I did know where it came from.

I take it most of your players dont' own the players handbook?
Actually, all of my players have a Player's Handbook. It's sort of a requirement the group set (I had no say). This book was made because I wanted to add new races, classes, spells, feats, talents, and equipment. Since I had access to the SRD, I figured it was easier to just give consolidated information. That's why the entire spell lists are there instead of just listing the new ones. It makes this book more of an extension of the PH. One stop shopping, as it were. My only remaining addition I want to put is a complete cascade tree of feats like you find in the PH.

I absolutely love your alignment standards.
I wish I could claim credit for that, but I found it somewhere on teh Intranets. I might have even been pointed to it from someone on the ENWorlds board, for all I remember.

I think about 90% of my house rules are from somewhere else. A quick assessment of my info:

Action points = Hero points (from Dragon 118 waaay back when). Been using and loving those things ever since then.

Living Life and Healing - This may well be our group's idea, but who knows.

Class modifications - nothing new

Single combined magic type (divine=arcane) - nothing new

No cross class skill penalty - nothing new

All the best ideas come from other groups..groups who've already suffered the playtesting of them.
