[DnD5] Exalted conversion... How to go about it?

Exalted RPG just came out with a new edition. I love the Exalted setting, but the ruleset is way too complicated for me. I just want to bash evil with the power of the Unconquered Sun, I don't want to count "ticks"!

So, with DnD5 being such an easy and flexible system, and since high-level play does lend itself to a "demigods" style of play, I was thinking to give a try at some sort of conversion.

The first step would be: how to go about it? Are Exalted a race? A class? A prestige class? A faction? A feat chain? Something completely different?

Let me know your opinion if you think this could work somehow.

PS: if you don't think this could work, move along, nothing for you here! :)

I did a bit of digging in my d20 collection, and I think I found something that could be interesting. There was this d20 game called Midnight, where all the PCs have some kind of thematic "super-powers". Basically, every level they get a special ability related to their Heroic Path (Healing, Earth-shaping, Blades, Toughness, etc).

I could create 5 themes (one for each caste) and then a players would just create their character under normal rules, and attach the Caste to it.

Of course, this will make PCs much stronger than normal characters with only their class, but at the moment I'm not really concerned with balance, just with implementation.
