D&D 5E Do cantrips level with Magic Initiate?

So I was thinking about my leveling plans for my Lizardfolk barbarian. Sooner or later I'm gonna give him Magic Initiate(warlock), because he hangs around the party warlock(also lizardfolk) a lot. Slot spell is gonna be Hex, but I was tinking bout giving him the blade cantrips.

In da descriptions, the weapon damage increases with level, as well as the magic damage. This guy is gonna be at least level 8 by the time he picks it up, so Wiuld the damage go up further than normal. If yes, than if I'm fighting a tight group, I'll gust GFB all da time, doing tons of damage, and if solo target, BB and back off (he's not too dumb to strategize).

I know the Bladetrips are already broken, but this is something I would like clarity on.

cantrip power is based on the level of the character, not class. So yeah, you could get mileage from that.

Eldrich blast would be a good way to get a very decent ranged attack without having to use a bow...

Keep in mind that with those cantrips, you are not taking the attack action. You get one weapon attack made when you cast the cantrip, but if you're relying on a bonus action attack it might not be available after taking the "cast a spell" action. Also, your Extra Attack feature won't give you an extra attack if you cast a spell instead of using the "Attack" action.

Just things to keep in mind. As a general rule, you'll probably do more damage with the cantrip than you would with a 2nd attack, but it might be situational.
