Personally, I perfer having the tools available to seek what I want.
If I'm playing a monk, but the folks we be killing seem more interested in armor and arms, my monk is going to have alot more trouble
.
Of course, I guess it's my own fault for playing a class dependant on magic items.
When I play a spellcaster, it makes me less likly to 'have' to take Item Creation feats (for my own benefit), and have to take the experience hits for up-crafting the rest of the party, because I'm the only one they know who can 'commission' their work.
Well, let me clarify here, I don't mind if commissioning is the means (past low-level expendables) to 'buy what I want', but if that option isn't available. I just perfer to have most of the folks who are up for making items in a 'well known' location, because the "Quest for the Legendary Blacksmith" is alot more entertaining for "The Suit of Armor You'll Ever Wear" than having to deal with it every 3 or 4 levels.
