Do Psions get Psicrystals for free?

Sure, you only get it once per arrow (or 'missile') , but you get it an unlimited number of times.

No, you don't. You get a single +1 / +1 bonus, and some rules on when you can apply it.

If it gave you an unlimited number of bonuses, then you could elect to use Point Blank Shot multiple times on any givent ranged attack (the bonus is unnamed, and therefore stacks with itself).

Edit: Man, soo many other people have already posted this. That's what I get for not reading ahead. Still, APAatT (All Power Attack all the Time).

And that one's not true, either. You gain a single ability - the ability to shift your bonuses to attack into bonuses to damage.

Otherwise, why couldn't you Power Attack twice for your BAB? After all, you can use PA more than once, right?

Similarly, the psicrystal feat gives you a single ability: the ability to gain a psicrystal. It does not give you the ability to gain two psicrystals.

So, again, the only logical, possible interpretations of this feat is that:

1. You get one and only one psicrystal
2. You get an infinite number of psicrystals

Oops, you misunderstood my reference there. I was saying APAatT to reference my "power attacking" the post, and therefore 'swinging to quickly' and missing. You will miss a lot if you APAatT.

The rules aren't clear on whether or not you can replace a lost/destroyed psicrystal. If they were clear, we wouldn't have an arguement.

Is there any other feat that gives you something that you can lose and never get back--even though you still meet the prequisites? I can't think of one.

Is it fair to punish a player who spends a feat on something and give them no recourse to ever regain the benefit of that feat slot? No.

IMC, and IMHO, a psion who takes the feat can get one psicrystal at a time and would only be able to replace it after a year and a day--like a familiar. Is it RAW? No. Does it work? Yep. YMMV.

Which is probably how I would run it, as well (including any modifiers I'd made to the familiar rules). I'd also add in the same penalties for losing your psicrystal (namely, XP loss).

Of cousre, a better example of that would really be the crafting feats. THey "give" you an unlimited amount of gold. Sure, you have to pay some initial gold into it each time, and it costs XP as well, but there's no theoretical limit on how much gold you could get out of the feat.

I thought most others were either not interested in Psions favoring the traditional Wizard & Sorcerer or they thought the Psions were under-powered, to weak to make a viable ulternative. Im glad to see someone else shares my opinion they are not only viable but dominating in many situations.

question have you played a Cerebramancer?

Shall I sneak in a comment about the over-powered-ness of psions?

:D

IMC, IMO, I wouldn't follow the SRD on this point. YMMV.

Errr.....this sort of thought is NOT widely accepted on these boards.

Generally speaking (barring sub-optimal builds), psions are either considered "about as powerful" as other classes, or "much more powerful" than other classes. Myself, I'm in the latter camp. :D
