D&D General Do THIS, WotC!

Or the future. Imagine a D&D version of Shadowrun where the world became more like a Modern-Day version of Eberron.

We just have to make sure such a setting isn't all like the one in the movie Bright.

They've done it once before, maybe time to bring it back?

I'm to the point that I'd like to see the D&D team design a NEW campaign world, built around 5E. I don't trust them with converting old material any more and would like to see them do a campaign world from scratch that is fully fleshed out. We got a pastiche with Radiant Citadel, but I'd really like to see them flex their creative chops and give us a wholly new campaign world that celebrates 5E. Like Eberron was for 3E and Netir Vale for 4E, let's see what sort of world they cook up for 5E - not rehash old worlds or convert MtG worlds; let's see what sort of fare the new folks can hand to us and grab our attention in new and wondrous ways.

Fans still have PTSD from BECMI and "Advanced" D&D being actually different games . . .

Using the terms "basic" and "advanced" probably wouldn't be a good idea, but a stripped down, simpler version of the game . . . without actually changing the rules . . . would be super cool.

I'd love to see a "Young Adventurer's Handbook" ("Basic" D&D) and maybe even an "OSR Handbook" (same thing, different focus).

I started playing D&D at age 9. And I wonder, today, would I be able to understand the current edition of D&D well enough to run games at that age. I don't think so. Ever since the ending of the Basic line, D&D hasn't had a strong on-ramp for brand-new players.

I would rather see a setting search. WotC's design team does not hold any special monopoly on creativity, as we can plainly see from the myriad of 3PP and fan settings out there.

What WotC does have a monopoly on is their IP, so if I could order them to make a thing, it would necessarily be a new version of a beloved thing they have let rot.

This might deserve a thread of its' own, but what would you like to see for a 5e Urban Arcana setting?
A world with a large city with strongly characterized neighborhoods, like Shadowrun's Seattle. Along with this some distant locales to explore like the Mystery Flesh Pit or the Long Stair. I wouldn't care about races/ancestries. Some notes on reinterpreting classes and a handful of new subclasses.

I would likely not buy it, but I agree that's what they should do.

Maybe, but I was just thinking there's a dearth of modern urban fantasy RPGs, but Dimension 20's The Unsleeping City and Fantasy High campaigns show that 5E can be made to work relatively easily. And D&D is well positioned to be the big dog in that space, by virtue of already being in so many mainstream bookstores, etc.
