Do Two-Handed Weapons Do +1 Damage?

So A longsword with two hands d8+1 is the same as a Greatsword d10?
Except with a Greatsword you cant choose to use it onehanded?

Answering self - well there is a tradition for long-swords being more common any way

Sigh why do I care whether a claymore is a bastardsword or greatsword or a fullblade.

Also:

If you care about damage, you care about powers that are x[W] where x>1 as your encounter and dailies. Or, if you're at epic level.

And 2d8 + 1 < 2d10. And 4d8 + 1 < 4d10.

Great yes that helps... I am relieved. (doesnt tell me if that silly claymore over there is what exactly in game but C'est la Vie).

Well, how big is that claymore?

|-----bastardsword---|-----greatsword-----|-----fullblade----|

Given there's no real overlap in size between these three categories, I'd figure categorizing that sword over there'd be a piece of cake.

hehe...

I just beat the part of me that thinks it cares about this question into an imaginary pulp so we can quit worrying about it. I refuse to get out rulers or really worry about the fact that D&D weapons are still a touch heavy compared to their closest rw counter parts (its scabbard weight hones <smash />).

D&D armor is quite a bit heavier than real world counterparts as well. The only plate that was *that* heavy would be intended for jousting and designed for maximum protection rather than mobility. Stuff worn in actual battles was lighter and more flexible. The other armor types are also too heavy, IMHO. Not, mind you, that it matters... ;)

Also, critical hits.

An Avenger would rather have the Greatsword since 10 is more than 9, 20 is more than 17, 40 is more than 33, etc.
