Do you admit to being a gamer?

I dont have "Gamer" on my forehead ala Teflon Billy :D but if anyone asks I say yes.

On Resumes if it has a place for hobbies I always put it down.

P.S. Meepo - That was hilarious.

I'm here, I game, get used to it.

I've had to write a "gaming bio" for a professional pitch where the communications company I work for was pitching a game company, who wanted to be sure that the team they selected would "get it".

I referenced Unearthed Arcana and the Erol-Otus cover D&D boxed set, and we won the pitch.

I'm not sure those things were related, but I tell myself that they were when I'm lying awake at night counting twenty-siders trying to sleep.

it was on my CV.

but as you age more things take up the space necessary to sell yourself in my field.

so the hobbies' listing was dropped.

and so were non-peer reviewed articles.;)

Wedged in the closest pretty tight.

Although 2 weeks ago, I was training a class at Holloman AFB and a fellow trainer saw me reading the EN Boards during a break. He asked me what messageboard I was reading and I told him it was for gaming. He asked if it was for a computer game and, dreading the impending conversation, I admitted it was for D&D. Surprisingly, we talked about how we had both been Ultima Online junkies playing at the same time on the same server.

I need to get over my own discomfort. Maybe we need to have a D&D pride parade.

Edit - BTW. Put gaming on my resume? Not a freakin' chance. Maybe one day though, one day...

Has anyone actually listed their secret shame (gaming that is, I don't want to know about your other secret shames) on an official document like a resume, job application or university application?

I don't have anything on my resume except my education, work experience and my professional publications. In my field, that's really all that is appropriate.

A gaming reference shows up in two places on my CV. Under extra-curricular activities at college I mention being a founder member of the university sci-fi and fantasy gaming club, and I mention roleplaying games under hobbies.

But then again I've never considered gaming, or anything else I choose to do, as something to be ashamed about. And I gave up being concerned about what's appropriate and other people's hangups when I was about 8 :)

During an interview a few years ago I mentioned I play D&D and the guy hired me on the spot.

Hated the job anmd left after 6 months of the boss telling me about his 30th level monk wizard assassin.

May he burn in heck!
So that's why you quit...

Umbran is right (I was the resume writing guru for my IT company), you should not list hobbies on a resume. It's a waste of space and has nothing to do with whether or not they'll want to hire you.
