Not in this lifetime!!

However, in middle school, I did inherit a duplicate set (I already owned them myself) of the original AD&D core rulebooks from an older relative who no longer played the game. His MM & DMG were in pretty rough shape, and the cover layers were partially torn. My buddy and I decided to peel the rest of the cover off (a slow, painstaking process) leaving a white, pulpy cardboard paper surface. We then designed and colored our own cover art and used contact paper to seal them.

But please note...these were not my books originally; I did not color inside them; and was only attempting to creatively repair the already damaged covers. I do my best to keep my D&D books in good condition, while still using them.

I find this kind of an odd idea. Why would I (or anyone else, for that matter) want to color their D&D books?

Well ya see, it has to do with the Tome of Horrors- great stuff, but all black and white art! A little application of colored pencil can go a long way.

I don't consider my books to be collectibles, rather they're reference books. I often write things in them to make it easier to find stuff I would otherwise have to flip around to find- I have no problem with writing in the errata, for instance.

Besides, monsters in color are just plain better visual aides than in b&w.

Good lord no! I'm absolutely obsessive about taking care of my books, not just the D&D ones. In fact, I went through my entire undergrad and graduate education without ever writing in a book. I just can't do it.

This is probably due to the fact that the only spanking my father ever gave me was for drawing a picture on the end paper of one of his books.:p

Just the idea of coloring in a book makes me cringe. I was never even able to highlight my textbooks in school.

*shudders* Now I'm going to have nightmares! :(

I write my name on the inside covor of my books. And smack anyone who tries to write anything else anywhere on them with a large, blunt object. :)

You just tore the cover off my Monster Manual?

In the early eighties, as a pre-teen, I though it would be cool to drill holes in my core rule books and keep them all in one big binder!

I explained this to my stepfather and he got out his power drill.

And he tore the cover of my MM before I could yelp for him to stop.

I must have been in shock. I may have cried.

It seems he misunderstood what I wanted, thinking I meant completely loose-leaf.

Anyhow, he didn't drill holes in my other books:D That year for Christmas, I got a replacement MM.

So I cut out the pictures from my old pages, and used them to show my players what their characters "saw" to help flesh out my inept descriptions. I colored some with crayons, but I really sucked at that, so they were mostly B&W.
