Do You Consider Miniatures Painting And/Or Collecting Part Of Your RPG Hobby?

Yeah, I think of it totally as being a part of the hobby. I have around a 1000 minis, but 60% or so of these are lead, so I've recently decided to swap to wotc's line of plastic minis. There are two main reasons for this. Firstly (and most importantly) my 2-year old son is beginning to show an interest. Secondly, I just can't find the time to paint them. But, I just think they add an extra dimension to the game.

I consider it part of my miniature gaming hobby, mostly. Some minis only see use as RPG minis, of course, but most are used for both.

I used to collect and paint mini's religiously, amassing a rather large collection. Of course that was back when I had a face-to-face group to play with. I'll admit my painting skills are mediocre at best, but it was fun to show off my latest painted mini to my group. There was also the fun of picking out a new mini for a character, I'm of the type that if you look at my mini you are looking at my character. If the mini has two hand axes, then my ranger is giong to be wielding two hand axes.

my intrest in mini painting came from wargaming, not RPGs (though both hobbies are related). Over time I have come to enjoy the act painting minis in and of itself. I buy minis (mostly reapers) just to paint, not to use.

No, it's an extension of my hobby. It is integral to neither my campaign nor my players' and my own enjoyment of the game.

However, minis are a GREAT addition to the game!

Nope. I used to love to buy metal minis and paint them. I have a small collection of minis that I've painted over the years. I'm sure I could get back into the painting of miniatures again, and if I did, it would once again be part of my RPG hobby, but as it stands at the moment, I use minis, and I like minis, but they aren't really a hobby for me anymore.
