Do you guys like Incarnum?

I play in a group of players with 2 long time DMs in it, one's always playing while the other one almost always DMs, and they switch off every week for different games. Well my problem is that my characters tend to do a lot of bad things because of my die rolls (I once rolled 8 nat 1s in the first 11 rolls of the entire game), and one of the DMs tends to love to kill off my characters because it's funny. I usually have at least 3 character ideas/builds in my head at any given time, so I read a lot of the books. I came across Magic Of Incarnum and it tweaked my interest but i've never heard of it and none of the players in my game have any experience playing them, so I was wondering what are your guys opinions of Incarnum?

I like Incarnum and it's mechanics, enough that I've been working on Incarnum versions of OA and other classes.

However, in play, all but the Totemist seem to come up lacking in the power department.

At least part of that is power creep/support: there are innumerable items, feats & PrCls that boost or support all the other classes out there- there simply aren't the same number of options for Incanum classes and the things they do.

The same could be said of aura-based classes or any class with a niche mechanic.

I suspect that another factor is lack of playtesting. I'm sure the classes were playtested, just not enough to illustrate the power discrepancies that become revealed over time. Look at the Soulknife or ToM classes: plenty of cool factor, to be sure, but most powergamers wouldn't touch one.

Binder works pretty well.

I found the base classes rather underwhelming. Some of the prestige classes looked nice, so dabbling into Incarnum might be an interesting option.

Well, if the DM allows it, the Incarnate looks like a good class to me, but the BAB is terrible on it, so any ideas for a good build with it? I don't even know where to start

Look at Soulmelds: they provide all the bonuses.

Example, want a trapfinding character but no rogue levels?
Theft gloves when bound to hand chakra, grant trapfinding.

Want bonus to it:
Incarnate avatar: Alingment is a big deal here,
Chaos grants ranged attack bonus
Evil grants melee damage bonus
Good grants armor class.
Law boost melee attack bonus.

Investing 2 essentia in this soulmeld when Lawful means you can boost up attack by +2 Insight bonus (a hard to gain bonus to hit).

This can be done by level 3rd level (due to expanded soulmeldf capacity):
You melee attack is +1 BAB + Str + 2 insight. Which means you aren't behind any fighting class.

Now, you'll gain an extra hit later (since BAB is lower), but you'll be equal in hit easily.
